http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/locoPicture.aspx?id=95460 Heres a link to the loco it's ex SP 5858 ,where are the sand fillers on these SP 5xxx series alcos? This appears to be an SP mod rather than home grown. Also does anyone know where the cable, which runs from the socket housing above the rear truck, goes to .Finally the box above the intercooler is another SP quirk anyone point me in the direction of a good roof detail shot or is it just a simple box?

Indian Creek RS11 Ex SP 5858 question

It appears the sand fillers are on top of the roof at both ends.

As to the cable and connector, an educated guess, is a stowage receptacle for external power to keep the batteries charged, or a block heater.

I am really leaning towards the block heater.

Re Indian Creek RS11

DSCN0597.JPG A shore supply lead for an engine block heater would make sense as I think the loco lives outside,picture4 on the link shows the cable lying on the walkway, something I'd not spotted before .I could really use a roof shot of an SP RS11 for the detail of the sand fillers as it's a model in progress at the moment.I've already modified the airfilters on the side by smoothing Squadron putty over one square and taking an old shell and cutting a spare filter out .Carefully drill and file a square hole until the filter is a tight fit,it's looking good so far and if I can work out how to get pictures upon here I'll post some in progress shots.R&W 182 is one 4,RS11/36 locos I detailed. Doug, I'm a loco engineer(train driver)of 35 years service here in the UK!

Indian River RS 11 more to do!

Well the more I study the prototype the more there is to do to the shell, the next job is to remove the long hood battery boxes and install a pair of full hood doors each side.Have two options here, first use a pair of doors taken from the same shell as the new filter or measure the doors and see if Cannon do a match.Removal of the battery boxes also means the handrails will need to be changed ,I will use the Smokey Valley kit for the RS11 painting and weathering the shell first. The box on the roof between the fan and exhaust will need to be added and the sand fillers just the pilot detail to do then.Notice how the pilots differ at each end at least thats an easy.
