Has anyone else noticed that sometimes the Enter key does and sometimes it doesn't produce a newline (in the RT editor; works fine in plain text mode)?  Or am I just missing something blindingly obvious to the meanest of minds?    David

I usually compose more

I usually compose more lengthy entries in MS Word, because it takes me so long, someone else may have made a better post than mine.  Then I cut and paste into the editor.  MS Word has a nasty habit of inserting extra lines between paragraphs.

So I am

typing this

just to see

if the hard return

works.

Yep - seems to work every time for me - sample size = 6

Depends on your device and what browser you use

The editor does different things depending on your device and what browser you use.

If you don't like one combination, try others. Also check out the INPUT format option below the edit panel to adjust how newlines work.

madness

Wouldn't it be nice if everything spoke the same language, and worked in a predictable way?  No, wait--that's logical, efficient, good sense...what am I thinking?

wretched IE10

which installed itself in spite of my declining to do so     Neither Full HTML nor Messaging plain text seems to give me newlines, though   (and I haven't had this problem with text entry anywhere else on or off the web).   David

shift+enter

When I have an issue like this, I'll try holding down the shift key while I press enter.  I'm not sure if it will work for you.

shift key

Nope, doesn't seem to do it either.  It's IE10 and this site - IE9 was ok, and Firefox is ok, and I haven't had the problem with other sites.

Hah!  But if I switch to the plain text editor and add a couple of < br /> tags

I can use the down cursor key to get my newlines when I switch back

Which is pretty silly when you stop to think about it...

Shouldnt need the
tags

Just click the Input format option link below the edit window and select messaging plain text. That should preserve the returns and line breaks.

We do have a new release of this editor coming that should catch it up with the latest browsers and devices. Hopefully in a few weeks at most.
