My initial 3D print arrived and I have done the pre fitting over the Atlas HH600/660 frame.

I am happy with the body but have found a few design issues with my trucks.

I print using Shapeways.com and here you are able to see right into the model and I don't have any clearance issues with the drive.

When I did my original scratch build I wanted to make two operational units. Well that never happened but I did end up with a second body. Here you can see how close the two are to each other. I needed space for the motor and PC board to be able to use the the Atlas frame. The cab was enlarged by a scale 3ft so all fits.

I also needed more clearance for the drive. I added just a bit to the cab height as well which should give enough room to plug a simple decoder into the PC board.

Next time a bit about the trucks.

This is very interesting.  Can I ask you the cost of this service?

Printing cost

Eventually I plan on having this available to anyone at shapeways. You should be able to search it right now. To get the detail needed means expensive materials. I think body and trucks is about $70. Tim

How did it turn out for smoothness?

I found I needed to sand a bit to get a reasonably smooth surface. How did your's go?

How smooth?

Yes I will have to sand it. I did not add rivet details to the body expecting there would be a fair bit of roughness. After cleaning the model,I usually wet sand with a 1000 grit sand paper.

Plans?

Out of idle curiosity, (assuming you used them as a guide,) where did you get plans for this model? I ask because my current traction tinkerings involve S scale, and I have been trying to draft a set of plans for this very motor, with little to no success.

Plans.

I have a copy of the assembly drawing provided by GE to HBM&S. That provided the basic dimensions and the rest is guess work.

I don't suppose...

You could share those dimensional datum? If no, I understand and can return to trying to draft my own. To be honest, I'm more looking for the 125-tonners than the 85 tonners, but thought the lighter one would serve as a starting point.

Plans

I don't have the plans in a format I can share at this time. utahrails.net has loads of information including the 85 ton and others. Somewhere in there are a few dimensional diagrams that are about as good as I have.

Really?

Most excellent! Many thanks for the information.
