Is the search feature not working on this site? I'm using an Ipad and just tried searching for "Bachmann" (with and without quotes) and got nothing. As a matter of fact I can't get any results for any search word. Any ideas?

Partially?

Rick,

I was able to search for you in the users section, but even searching on DCC came up with nothing. I'll see what I can find...

Search engine claims it's 99% indexed...

I'm going to let Joe take a look at things before hitting the "Reindex" button.

Thanks, Jeff

I was trying to help the fellow that posted here trying to get the shell off of his RS-3 Bachmann by referring him to a previous thread.

Search engine working again

Our host upgraded some server software and broke the search. They rolled back the updates and search now works again.

Not 100% working ...

Joe,

I tried searching for the word "allagash" (less quotes) and came up with zero results.  I know there are articles, blog entries and forum posts that contain that word.

Cheers,

Ian

Try search now

In addition to downgrading our server, we also needed to reindex the site, which is now complete (except for a few recent items, which should get added to the index in the next couple hours when the index update runs).

I can do an "Allagash" search and I now get pages of stuff back.

So in my tests, search appears to be back to its old useful self.

Where did I read that?

Ed and I both have the pleasure of viewing your magazine site. The ease of navigating is good. The direct, fast links to manufacturer's pages is appreciated. What you offer us in the hobby provides many conversation starters. Thank you.

However, lately we've had problems with, Where did I read that?

A New Era in Layout Lighting

The article / post includes NEITHER the phrase room lighting, nor string lighting, which is what Ed remembered when he asked, Where did I read that?

Thanks for your time.

Search is Wonky again.

Search still returns older results but a search for BNML, for example, should return several results from the last few day. Is the search index getting updated?

The site is fully indexed

The site has been fully indexed, so it's not that. It is known the native Drupal search in this version is okay but not great - it does not index every single word. Next version of Drupal has a better search ... And upgrading is on our roadmap this year. In the meantime Google is your friend. If I type: MRH BNML into google I get well over 500 hits in Google ... All pages on this website.

Seach engine problems

I don't know how many times I have tried to find articles I have read by searching for words either in the title or even words in the articles and I come up empty, ok not empty but certainly not what I'm looking for.

Here are two examples, put these in the search box and see what comes back:

track cleaning consists

baltimore club

Now go to google and put it in the search box this way:

site:model-railroad-hobbyist.com track cleaning consists

site:model-railroad-hobbyist.com baltimore club

I was looking for: https://forum.mrhmag.com/post/track-cleaning-consists-12184361

https://forum.mrhmag.com/post/baltimore-md-area-forming-new-rr-club-members-wanted-12188945, respectively

With the google search I find my article at the first link, with the website search the articles don't even show up.

So I think you need a new search engine, or change some settings.  If there is a setting to return the articles with all the words first, that might help.

Oh the reason I have run into this regularly is I get my weekly update at home and remember the articles that I want to read and try to find them when I have some down time at work, but have a heck of a time finding them, because the website search doesn't get me results.

We've talked with our web hosting service and they're telling us the version of Drupal we're running doesn't entirely mesh with the version of PHP (the web engine) they're now running, so search can be iffy at times. Basically, we need to upgrade to the next version of Drupal (version 7).

An upgrade prep has started, but it won't be complete for a few months yet.

In the meantime, using Google is a great workaround. We just put MRH in front of any search phrase we want to use and it returns links to our website. For example:

MRH couplers

... returns many pages of results on this website, including videos. So this is a very good workaround until we can complete the upgrade.
