Retired Alex

I have been busy unpacking and checking out my engines and rolling stock the past weeks and thought I woudl post some pictures of what I have done so far. My models have been in storage for about 18 years and some engines are in sad shape, mostly from mild corrosion. I had them stored in a spare room  in the basement with the heat turned off. Anyway, these engines are now working like new and ready for DCC.

The first 2 pictures are of my baby. She began life as a Model Die Casting (Roundhouse) 0-6-0 and has been modified to a 2-6-2 Prairie. A can motor was added along with a scratch built brass snowplow, all weather cab, running boards and detail parts. The tender was modified, new wheels added and Kadee couplers. This engine is definately slated for DCC and sound.

I found a Rivirossi 0-8-0 that I spent 3 days getting to run only to find parts were missing and unavailable to repair it. Then I unpacked this engine, in almost brand new condition. It ran perfectly the first time I put it on the tracks. I didn't even know I had it.

These are 2 switchers double headed to nowhere, but they run.

I still have several more steam engines to work on, a 2-10-4 Selkirk (called a Texas in the US), a 4-8-4 Mountain and 2 4-6-4 Hudsons that I as in the middle of converting to Royal Hudsons when I packed them away.

Well dinner break is over, back to work.

Nice

That prairie is a real beauty   I can see you've put a lot of work and love into her.

That's a very distinctive 2-6-0 that looks great, you are obviously very proud of her and rightly so. Your description of starting with an MDC 0-6-0 took me back to one of my first projects in HO way back, building that kit. Good times.
