I got an e-mail that someone had sent me a PM on a subject.

But I have spent the better part of 15 minutes trying to find where you see that on this forum. I have clicked every possible button on my own controls and I see no links to any PMs. There's also no notification when you get into this site that someone sent you a PM. Had I not seen my e-mail, I never would have known.

So, how do you open your PMs? This site is very clumsy compared to all other forums I've been on for this...

Yeah, but how do you read

Yeah, but how do you read messages sent to you? Do they only go to your e-mail or is there a PM folder on this site somewhere?

Private means Private

The PM generates an email between the two parties.  It is not available on the MRH Forum. To respond the receiving party emails back to the originator a second email.

Private messages on MRH

To send a private message on MRH, you click on the person's subscriber name (at the top of any post they make), then click the Contact tab. On the page that comes up, you type a subject and the body of your message, then click send. The message goes to the person via EMAIL. There is no private message inbox on this site.

To read a private message, watch your email, since that's how they are sent. To respond to the person just click reply in your email client since the email shows as coming from them. It looks something like this in your inbox:

Hey Joe:

Dan Wilson here. Love the magazine and website! I don't post much, but I am
on the website a lot, and of course MRH is my favorite model railroading mag!

I wanted to suggest you guys do an article on rolling stock maintenance, like
how to check wheels, trucks, couplers, what's the proper weight, how to add
weight to cars - especially open top cars, stuff like that.

I think an article on this topic is rare in the hobby press, and would be
great to hear from all the MRH staff on this. Be nice to hear the different
perspectives!

Keep up the good work ...

DAN WILSON

Is the private message feature disabled at this time? I can't seem to make it work.

Yes

Until after the move to the new software for the forum.

For now

Yes, the PM feature has been disabled because it’s buggy and unstable. The new forum has a very rich private messaging that works well. Hopefully the move will be in a few weeks!

If you’re desperate to contact somebody directly, file an MRH support ticket with us, select MRH forum as the product and give us the user handle of the person you need to contact in the problem description and we will put you in touch via email.
