Hartford NMRA Convention - Day 2

July 7, 2009 - As day 2 of the Hartford NMRA National dawned, the MRH staff were off again - cameras in tow!
One rather interesting clinic that we've put to video is Gene and Benita Jameson's Weathering, Loading and Cabling a Walthers 72' Center Beam Lumber Car.
In the photos on the left, we see a line up of many centerbeam cars and various types of loads.
This clinic covers building and installing these loads, the cabling and weathering involved - all described step-by-step.
If you've ever wondered how to build and install realistic lumber loads - anyone from the transition era to modern era can glean insights from this clinic.
MRH has put this clinic to video and will be posting it in the weeks to come on MRH Theater.
Gene covered one of the more finicky aspects of modeling lumber loads - especially centerbeam lumber loads - and that's all the cabling involved.
In the photo below, you can see the model Gene uses in the clinic to demonstrate doing the cabling.

At any rate, this was a fabulous clinic - for the thousands of you who couldn't make it to Hartford, we will be bringing you some of the clever modeling techniques of the Jamesons!

Gene Jameson (on the right) explains some of his centerbeam loading techniques to one of the convention staff just after giving his clinic today at the NMRA National in Hartford, CT.

I thought yesterday's bog entry was great. And now you bring this one to the table. I must be turning green with envy! Ok, I realize i'll get to see the clininc on a future Movie Monday, but somehow live presentations are so much better especially if one gets to ask some questions of the presenter when the presentation is done in another scale than the one you model in. The techniques may be the same but the materials are of a different size and that can make a big difference.

This looks like a good one.
One thing I found at the clinics at the RPM meet this spring was that for some of the more "hands on" clinics it was hard to see what was happening. I think that a video will be a great way to experience this sort of clinic.

Chris
