Photo Log of Rio Grande Southern in HOn3 summer 2009

Hello again
I've been working for the past month on bench work after re-drawing and tearing out the other Bench work I'd Started I have a few Photos of the Bench work my work areas and some of My HOn3 Rolling Stock and Engines as well as supplies laying out ready to be installed. Starting Is a drawing of the first stage in room #1.
This is the ruff sketch of the 14foot 10 in X12ft 6 in room and a schematic of the Ridgway yard & Roundhouse. I'll be adding this last Bench tomorrow. as for now this will show what I've done in the past 3 weeks.

Day one above photo Walls stripped of last bench work and ready for the new. Over the next few days after this first photo My progress was pretty fast.

The dates on these photos are way wrong so disregard them.

The dates are closer but, they are the date I re-sized them to fit the blog today in fact

This is My pal Rio Grande He is the only Cat that is aloud in the Train Room (I have 10) and is a Major Ham. If he sees me with a camera He Poses every time. 99% of the time he sits on the little refrigerator he's on in this photo just waiting for a screw to drop on the floor. If I drop one he runs for it picks it up with his teeth and then climbs up on the stool holding the screw in his mouth until I take it then returns to the Fridge. He has done this ever since The day I got him last July first as a Birthday present and when I'm home he is never more than a few feet away from me.

The wall on the right is the Ridgway Yard area and the last bench top in stage 1 of my Rio Grande Southern. I hope to assemble and install the frame work tomorrow (the 4th of July) before the Bar-B-Q starts and all my friends show up.

This is a Map of Colorado's Narrow Gauge Circle the area on the left in red and yellow is the RGS area I'm Modeling.

Here is a close up of the RGS section of the map. It ran from Ridgway to Durango from 1890's to 1960 when most of it was removed and a Highway was placed over the Roadbed.

Here are a few photos of my Narrow Gauge Engines and rolling stock all DCC and sound Equipped.

just Above and below are some photos of tools, track and scenery ready for installation.

here are 7 of 15 boxes of Narrow Gauge and some standard gauge Models yet to be built there in the bottom right 2 boxes are 6 RTR HOn3 engines and 5 Models and 2 are Brass C-16 with DCC can Motor up-grades.

Some of my Weeds and bushes that will be Trees on the layout I'll need somewhere near 2000 in the next few years.

one of 6 work areas I have.

Same area just in front of the white chair in the last photo . This is one of my roll top desks. The Brown metal box with the duct Tape holding my Trestle Bass wood is where I have close to 4000 D&RGW as well as RGS Decals and Dry transfers for my scratch building and Kit bashing I have planned it took me 4 years to hunt all these down in almost all 50 states most are no longer made. also on the top shelf are the last of my "N" gauge Books and references.
You asked for Photos so for now that's it. The next photos I Load up will be of the Yard and Roundhouse areas of Ridgway. Hopefully now that I finally have almost all of phase 1 bench work done next will be Base board Homosote and Track. maybe next I'll show the construction of my Turntable and Roundhouse which will be Scratch built because I have only found a couple Models of them and they run in the hundreds of dollars each.
My Son gave me a fantastic DVD for a birthday present called "Denver and Rio Grande Multimedia Adventure Kit" That has drawings you can download exactally to which ever scale your working in. Alot of Models on the DVD are of of structures that cost in the hundreds each if you can find the models with the DVD most can be built if your good at scratch building for just the price of supplies and that's my favorite side of the model RR hobby, scratch building Structures. Now time to Down load Volume 3 of MRH.

I am very interested in Colorado HOn3 and have also purchased 2 of the the Blackstone K-27's and numerous cars from the same company. I really like the sound option in the engines. I have NCE equipment which I think will work great. Your layout looks very nice and I wish mine was that far develpoed. I hope to get going on a layout by the first part of next year. Until then I am collecting "parts" and run the engines on a 2X4 that is 8 feet long. Yes, I have a long way to go!

Good luck Bill!! it's alot of fun and alot of work. In the end it's all worth it, you just need to start building something and then go from there. Best part is there is an extreme amount of information on the Rio Grande southern, Denver & Rio Grande western and every thing Rio Grande so you can find tons of help on line for free and more if you want to buy it.
