Layout Update - BC Rail Fort St. John Sub

A long overdue layout update for August 2010.

Most of the last few months have been spent working on extending the lower deck benchwork and kitbashing some freight cars.  A few revisions were made to the track plan and a work continues on developing an operating plan.

The following are some images from the last few months of work.

First off... Two kitbashed 60ft double door box cars that are close reproductions of BC Rail prototypes.

Next.. a couple more 60 foot boxcars, again kitbashed to reproduce unique BC Rail prototypes

In the Spring I Installed a lighting rig over the lower deck bridge scene and touched up some details on the backdrop

Finally.. revised the trackplan to a simpler double deck point to point design...  The new layout summary and track plan are below:

Looks interesting

Looks interesting.. whats that big industry in the lower left? Is it rail served?

Chris

That industry is a huge

That industry is a huge Canadian Forest Products (CANFOR) Sawmill.    There is a wye that enters into the complex.  I believe the brown coloured rows are stacks of logs.  Not sure if the logs come in by rail anymore but the packaged  lumber and woodchips leave by rail; on centrebeams and in gondolas respectively.

That backdrop...

Andy,

That backdrop behind your bridge is awesome, very impressive!  And the bridge itself is up there too!

Backdrop Paint

Hi Tom

Backdrop was painted using standard acrylic tube paints.  I used the Liquitex line.   Although I mixed many subtle shades, the basic colors used were Hookers green for coniferous vegetation and Chromium oxide green for the spring Aspen trees..

First SD40-2 Ready for Service

This one somehow missed the intial update.  The first SD40-2 has been detailed, painted and weathered and is now ready for service.  Two more units are currently on the workbench.   Modifications were made to the shell including nose length and a number of detail parts were added to represent the BC Rail prototype.  The model was finished with Microscale decals.

that SD looks good...

but when I think BC Rail, I think of MLW's and a Hudson.

Any MLW's on the way?
