I am looking for a N.scale sound decoder for a rs2 or3. I am kinda tied in to the rs (i just like them and they fit my period and place). I have not purchased the loco or the decoder yet. I do have non sound dcc kato and atlas rs2,3.What I did was purchase a nce power cab and I want to at least have one loco using sound.

Any ideas?

DCC = OK, Sound = challenge

Dear John,

Assuming it's a Atlas RS1 or RS3, and you're only looking to add DCC control, it looks like TCS have you covered with their "CN" series decoders

As for adding sound, that's going to get more tricky! The sheer narrow/small cross-section hood of the RS shell doesn't look to allow a lot of room, unless you start removing significant ammounts of frame/weight and/or possibly a gear-tower. (Wouldn't be the first time someone has forgone powering one truck to shoehorn sound into a loco, even in HO or even O-narrow scales!).

A Zimo or CT Electronik "sugar cube" speaker would likely be the best bet as far as a speaker-that-would-fit would go, but finding a suitable sound decoder is the big showstopper...

Best of luck!

Thanks again prof. I model

Thanks again prof. I model the 60s so I want to stay in that era. Also rural n. michigan (huron shore) no passenger work to speak of. Dirty locos pulling dirty cars pulling dirty rocks. When I upgraded my old lenz set 02 I wanted to at least try sound. I bought an atlas C628 that was advertised to be dcc sound equipped ,It was not. True to form my LHS (caboose hobbies in Denver) Said I could ship it back and they would refund my $,give me store credit,or anything else I want. What I want is a Nscale loco with a sound decoder(oem or after market). I dont want a big steamer or passenger diesel, they dont fit with my fantasy rr.

again thanks
