So, my next project is to get some cabooses together for my short freight fleet of power, before the rolling stock arrives.

To that end, I have aquired 5 Athearn Cabooses (cabeese?) in IC orange, already decorated.  2 different road numbers out of 5 cabeese is a good start.  So, next I aquired some IC Orange paint from:

Tru-Color Paint is a solvent based paint with an acrylic polymer used as the binding agent which adheres very well to plastic or metal models, when those models are properly prepared. The pigments and/or dyes used to produce the correct colors are very finely ground so that they do not clog air-brushes.

So, I got one caboose out and wanted to touch up an area that did not get painted well to begin with - under the roof walks, because I also got some high detail metal roof walk kits.  Apparently the two paint chemistries are not compatible.  Where I add paint from Tru-color it removes the Athearn paint? WTF?

Can I add some sort of base primer to protect the Athearn paint?  I do *NOT* want to strip the cabeese and repaint.  I want to paint over 1 digit of the road number and touch up the roof walk areas only.

So far, I have only played with 1 caboose and can get another if I have to, and the color is a good match.
