.........for weathering brushes:

I had often looked at my lady friend's make up applying brushes and thought they'd work great for weathering.  I was at Target the other day to get Q-tips and noticed these were on sale for a buck apiece!  6 bucks for a weathering kit is a far cry from what the cost is from on line venders. Check it out!

Brushes and make up foam pads

I use my wife's discarded brushes like these and the make up pad-things. The ones that are an off-white closed cell foam, are loosely a triangle shape, and come in a pad. Great fr not only applying pigment but also diminishing the effect if you apply too much. They do a decent job of applying paint in a thicker layer to simulate the texture of built up rust and other crud.

I also got but did not photograph............

...........little pads about 1/4 " wide with foam like you're talking about that have a short handle on them.  They are far superior to Q tips as they don't fuzz!!

I suppose I'd get in trouble...

If I pointed out that makeup brushes and foam are made for exactly that purpose, so it only makes sense they would work well. Just don't tell your wife that she's "weathering" her face.

Well...

6 of one, half a dozen of the other.

The point is, those tools are made to apply and blend, so they should make excellent weathering tools.

Yes, I told my wife that it makes her look really distinguished, like old leather.

Now if someone could just explain her sudden mood swings.

Steve......

.............note that none of those brushes are the super soft facial youngness making we are talking about here.  I got a pack like that for scenery work at the dollar store.  If memory served me they were $1.10 before tax.  What's up with that??
