Kato

My preference is the Kato intermodal (if I was to have done intermodal).  The cars are solid, the containers have magnets to hold them in place and they just plain run well.  They currently have two different ones listed: MAXI-I cars and MAXI-IV cars.  They also sell just the containers if you want some extras.  You can also get graphics for the containers and make your own from cardstock or foamboard for use in populating container yards cheaply as background filler.  Walthers also made some well cars, but I didn't find them with a quick search on the Walthers site.

Agree with the choice of Kato

Agree with the choice of Kato for, their spine cars. I believe Genesis or Kato also make very nice well cars, too.

If your looking for

If your looking for recommendations for intermodal, how about the Atlas, Walthers and Genesis 89' flat cars.  Yes, they are intermodel cars.  Some of the Walthers and Genesis 89' flat cars are TOFC only but other Walthers "all purpose" and Atlas "all purpose" carry both containers and trailers and have tracks for the pedistals.

Thats what I recommend.  BTW, I also like container well cars, the Intermountain Twin Stack cars are some of my favorites, I have 3 5-unit articlated sets (2 Sea Land and 1 SP/TT).  Those were used in the 80's and well based 2000, although I think they are rare now.

era?

Do you have a particular era in mind? Current day? Non-specific?

If you're modelling say 1980 versus today, the answers may change a bit.

What are your curves

What are your curves then?

Pretty much all the 89' TOFC/COFC flat cars in HO have a recommended minimum radius 24".

As mentioned

Atlas,

Kato,

Walters/MDC

Also N Scale Kits (really nice pewter kits of all sorts of stuff)

Fox Valley Models

Trainworx

And nearly all of this will handle 12 inch radius for n scale - but the 89 footers (and the 85 footers) will have considerable overhang.
