I was wondering if anyone here has tried and/or had success with mating the old Atlas S-2/S4 shell to the new Bachmann ALCO S-2 fame w/sound? I know Atlas will be releasing a newly tooled S-unit with sound EVENTUALLY, but I have a line on both the Bachmann and Atlas engines NOW, and at good prices, but I also don't want to get stuck with them if the idea doesn't work. I don't mind putting in a little work (grind, file, cut) to fit them together, but I don't want to risk destroying them either, know what I mean?

Thanks for any help or suggestions in advance!

Dimensions?

I seem to recall reading somewhere that the Atlas models are too long.  If so, the shell might not match the frame.

However, given the similarities between an S2 and an S4, wouldn't it be easier to change the details slightly on the Bachmann model?

I don't think it will work.

I don't think it will work. The Bachmann is a body/walkway combo (1 piece unit). I believe the Atlas was a frame/walkway 1 piece unit and the body/cab fit on to this.  Joe

Thanks guys, I appreciate the info. I'll just get the Bachmann engine and deal with stripping and repainting it!
