being bored today i decided to switch out a couple of my industries. i found that i have a couple of issues with my turnouts.the locos stall going over the frogs. a couple of feeder wires will fix that. i was not able to get the uncoupling on video because i was doing everything by my self ( running the train, video & operating the manual turnouts.)
the bnsf unit will be renumbered
enjoy the video & as always, your comments, questions & subs are welcome.

Nice video. It would be fun to figure shorter and less moves given the length of the sidings.

Crews in Cleveland used to bid the Carling Brewery run and figure all the "shortcuts" so they could spend the extra time at Carling where mugs were provided for "crew comfort" as a thank you for handling loads. During the wait time, several cars were unloaded so they could be taken back as empties thus avoiding drayage charges.

The beer was payment for waiting, if the crew had time. They were on a tight schedule because they had to cross the NYC mainline and not hold up or interfere with that railroad's schedule. The yardmaster at 55th Street got really upset if he had to call and explain why his crews were holding things up on another railroad - thus the figuring of economy moves so the switching crew had both time and free beer. . . LOL!

Cal Gas

Hi Vinny, I don't remember seeing the lamp base at Cal Gas, is this for the evening crew? LOL

Nice video, you need to use a tripod to keep things rolling smoothly. What program do you use for your videos?

LESS MOVES

hello David

thanks for your input..yes, you are right, i could have made lessor moves. for example, pick up all the empties, move them out to the main then pick up loads from siding spot them. this would clear the siding for any through traffic.

as i mentioned in my text, this was the first time i actually did any switching on my layout, so it's a learning process. also i found some issues with one of my turnouts (poor electrical connection) i need to install more ground throws ( in the process of buying some as we speak)

i plan on re-doing this video when i take care of the issues, add the ground throws & most importantly have some one else man the camera  ( namely my daughter...she doesn't know it yet..lol)

any way thanks for you comment & input

TRIPOD!!!!!

hey Paul

this was the first time i have run on my layout since you where here. i know there where some bad shots in the vid but, i was doing it all, running, switching turnouts, coupling & uncoupling & doing the vid. although i had issues with one turnout & a couple of bad shots, i think it worked out ok. its funny that any kind of adjustments are always needed at the furthest point on the layout...lol

i am going to re-do this session after i get the issues taken care of ( electrical contact at the bad turnout & add ground throws) then i will have my daughter man the camera.

i am using windows live movie maker...not the greatest. after i upload to you tube, i do my editing. the bad thing about you tube is you have to use their back round music..& because of that, your chances of finding a selection to match the time of the video are slim.

i wish you where here to play trains....

any way, thanks for the comment & have a great snowy day

Nice to see your progress

Vinny,

Nice to see your layout and modeling progress. I'm working on a layout modeling Phoenix between roughly Wikenburg and Mesa focusing on the intersection of the ATSF and SP in the late 1950's. Having grown up in Phoenix and as a frequent visitor (live in Virginia now) it's nice to see familiar places in your models. Some, such as Fertizona and Smith Steel will be represented on my layout but at an earlier time. Good luck in your efforts and thanks for posting!

Switching

Vinny: I enjoyed the video. When you do the facia make concave and convex corners. Avoid,

as much as possible, 90 degree corners. Yours, Elvin

FASCIA

good morning elvin

thanks for watching the video. as i mentioned in my text, this was the first time i have actually did any kind of switching. i can see the fun i will have once everything is in order.

i am holding off on completing the layout because there is a possibility of me buying a home. so if i do purchase a home, i am going to rebuild the layout & all my fascias will have rounded corners.

thanks for watching & your input

have a great day

THANKS

good morning Ben

thanks for watching & your comment. this is still very much a work in progress.2 reasons why i chose the "peavine" first i live here in phoenix & second, i like BN,ATSF & BNSF. i have personally visited several of my industries & have had tours at a couple of them. i wish i had more room so i could continue the line south & include the UP/SP yard & some of the industries in south phoenix. although i don't have the room, i am going to purchase a couple of pieces of UP/SP motive power ( 6 axle units)

how often do you visit phoenix? the next time you are in the area, let me know, i will give you a first hand tour of the layout. maybe even play a little.

feel free to check out my blog page at the link below

thanks again...have a great day
