Took care of some things this weekend.

  • First I tried my hand, for the first time, at weathering rolling stock.
  • Second with the help of my electrician brother-in-law, managed to upgrade the lighting in the layout room, which was really holding up progress.

You can see the full story of how this all went down on my blog: http://westtorontojunction.blogspot.ca

You can visit that blog by clicking here

The blog chronicles my return to this wonderful hobby as I build a room-sized, HO scale switching layout that models the Canadian Pacific in West Toronto.

I'm hoping to get a track plan posted and get the backdrop up soon. I'm dying to paint out that pink insulation!

I'm keen to see any and all blogs/galleries of modern-day, room-sized switching layouts. Any links you can suggest would be welcome.

Have a good weekend everyone!

LOOKS GREAT

You did a great job weathering! Stay with it. Remember to vary the amount of weathering (some lighter than others) and consider what part of the country the car came from. Also, keep a few cars with no weathering on it.

Thanks for the comments. I

Thanks for the comments. I take your point about varying the weathering. I've got some examples posted here where I held back a bit.

I can see now that it requires a very subtle touch. It's a fine line between "just right" and "badly over-weathered."

Pelle Soeborg advises applying the washes and weathering in light layers, and I can see why. You can always apply more but once you've gone to far with the weathering wash, you can't go back. With powders, you can at least remove them.
