Hello Friends

I would like to show the progress of the Swamp Diorama build by my Friend Stefan Foerg from Germany. I've already a small Diorama from him and the Quality of his work is outstanding.
As you Guys know, I love to take pictures of my Rolling Stock on different Dioramas but I was always limited by the size of the Diorama. The goal of the new Diorama was to show more then one or two Engines with a Car or two behind so I decide to ask Stefan to build me a 2.4 Meter (8 Foot) Diorama with lots of Details and for great Pictures. So let's start:

Sigh

That's it!  I quit!  I'm going to go bang some rocks together now...

Some people raise the bar.  Others build an entirely new bar miles above the old one.  Superb work!

That is INSANE!

Who details the underside of a bridge?!

Absolutely fantastic modeling guys! There are definitely a few "Yes, its a model!" photos in that bunch!

Fabulous Diorama

Jürg,

That is some fabulous diorama for taking pictures of your trains. Stefan did a superb job on that. I like the fact the pictures show that the plowed field didn't "work" and was replaced by a swampy area during construction.

I have a few questions on materials used:

  • The cat tails, how were they created? Selectively stripping the insulation of solid wire or is there someone out there making these?
  • The base of the diorama, is that styrofoam covered in a thin layer of plaster of paris?
  • The leafy material used on some of the copper wire trees, it seems like some material similar to dried parsley is used?

Thanks for sharing these inspirational pictures.

Absolutely fantastic! I, for one, would love to see more on Stefan's techniques. Forum posts, an article ot two... or three... or four...............  How about a video/DVD? It is just incredible work!

Thanks for sharing this on the MRH forum!

Incredible

Absolutely beautiful work, guys- just incredible. I agree with the comment about building new bars versus raising the old ones. You have certainly given us all something to aspire to. Now I'm going to join Ken and find some rocks to bang together...

Thanks all for the great

Thanks all for the great comments, it's most appreciated and I'll give the Feedback to Stefan for sure.

We had some discussions regarding the Cattails, because the commercial products are not good enough for close up pictures so Stefan did his own.

The base of the Diorama is MDF and then a layer of Styrofoam. The leafy material is from Noch. Stefan used several colors and mixed them together so the Trees are not to uniform. Sometimes he put them also in a Mixer to make them smaller.

At the moment we (he) is working on a stunning Snow Diorama. Of course I'll show all pictures soon.

Very beautiful modeling

So realistic! Now that you have destroyed my self esteem for today, I'll go back to what I was doing...

Echo

I can only echo the applause by other members. This modeling is truly outstanding. Think I'll just go bury my head in the sand and dream about such skill. If that doesn't work then at least the photos will prompt me to strive to improve.

Looks like home

Great job, looks like my old back yard down on the swamp.

May I ask how did you produce the tree trunks?
