MagnaLock Air Lines

I saw a video for those, chased them around eBay but could find nothing further.  I think they would be very realistic and quite an improvement in detailing.

Wonder if this is the big surprise.  11:39 PM, guess I don't have long to wait.

major new hobby innovation!

I hardly think locking air lines would qualify as " major new hobby innovation!".

My guess is DCC uncouplers...Cheap and easy. Thats my hope anyway (fingers crossed ).

DCC uncouplers already in a printed mag.

Already seen a Kadee advertisement for DCC operated couplers in G scale. Has to be something else.

Hmmmm.

If it turns out to be a Segway, I'll be ever so disappointed.

new inovation

It is the magnetic air hoses.  I know for a fact. Received E mail telling me with video.  Funny to watch the video. You see a hand with a wooden stick uncouple the cars then the cars separate and with the DCC sound you see the air hoses unlock and hear the air blow out.  I'm just wondering what happens when you pull over a magnet?

You'll need to get another engine or two to help pull the car off the magnet.

Is this an older and published hobby idea?

Now back to "Old News Joe" who said

Old news. See OST#42 (Jan 2009). Ben Brown describes how he makes working air hoses with small magnets.

I wonder why this topic never got this much attention on the forums back in Jan. 2009?
BTW Joe, I gave your "old news" a plug over on the MR Forum where I first found this video while sleep walking one night.

Before you tell me it's old news ...

Before you tell me it's old news, then let me say the new news is it's now coming to market as a widely available product for all scales. HO, N, and others.

It may have been kicking around the forums as a novelty topic for a few years, but now it's a mass market product anybody can get, eventually for any scale - and that, my friends, is a BIG deal.

Magnets? What magnets?

Since you would have to get rid of the trip pins to be able to use these, there's no point in having magnets once they are installed.  That's the biggest draw back I see to these.  Personally, I would prefer to dispense with magnetic uncoupling anyway, but sometimes that's not an option.  There's always choices to be made, unfortunately.

Most modelers into serious operation don't use magnets

Most modelers into serious operation don't use uncoupling magnets. The prototype uncouples wherever they need to and so do the modelers who like prototype ops.

With these new air hoses coming to mass market status, it will be easy to put these on all your equipment. I can see walking the train before pulling out now has a real purpose. Make sure all the air hoses are coupled ...

Prior art is not patentable

If the "big deal" is based on claiming a patent on published prior art, and trying to use it to shut out competition that way, then its bad for the hobby.  Don't you rememberer what JMRI just went through, and the NMRA fighting the recent attempts to retroactively patent DCC/Sound.

It takes big bucks to undo a patent, even if it's wrong.

Assume the best

Andy, don't always assume the worst.

From what we know, PWRS purchased the rights to the product from the inventor and they're working together with them on a patent.
