Hey gang,

I am looking for anyone who has experience with the Walthers Trainline Railtech "train set" that came out a few months ago. In the product literature, it claims to have a Digitrax compatible throttle. I am just wondering if the controller is similar to the Digitrax Zephyr. In other words, can it just plug into the loconet?

How about the overall quality of the set?

A fella I happen to know might be interested in a simple shelf layout or something similar and my thought is that this set would be a great way to get him into the hobby. MB Klein has it for like $169 which seems certainly within the range of fair...

Railtech throttle

Looks like it's a Digitrax product, through and through:

WTL12 is fully expandable with Digitrax LocoNet:

Use WTL12 as a starting point for your Digitrax LocoNet System, then add components.

Use WTL12 as an expansion set with Digitrax equipment you already have installed.

Add Radio or IR via LocoNet. Just plug in a UR90 or UR92 receiver and add IR and/or Radio throttles.

Here is a video of the Digitrax WTL12

It was a little surprising to me that there was not more interest in this thread because there are still a lot a modelers questioning whether or not to use DCC or stay with DC... Even though the Trainline products have some real toy like properties, this seems like a hard deal to pass up. I think I am going to try and convince a friend of mine to get one of these sets...  The video below shows how versitile this unit really is, especially to a modeler who does not expect to run very many throttles at one time. If it works like every other Digitrax product, add a booster to the loconet and viola'.

Staying with DC

I'm staying with DC, but using R/C control. Constant 12VDC to the tracks and a 2.4 GHz radio. Works fine if you run only one steam engine. No consisting problems such as with a lash-up of diesels. That's why I did didn't get involved with this thread. You asked.
