Perhaps someone is bumpting some of these or there is some failure or corruption on the hosting server on the east coast or...?

 

This is what I see on a "Recent Posts" query:

Notice the third, fourth sixth and seventh entries - some have to do with the Sandy storm.

Old posts

I use the recent posts all the time, however .. how did all these old posts just show up with 1 new reply on them. When I looked, the latest post was a long time ago. Usually when a spammer replies to an old posting, once you nuke him, it sends the thread back to the archived postings depending on the last updated date.

I have also found that using the recent posts by type can miss some of the postings from user MRH . Joe knows the reason for this....
