New looks older now

I pulled out my daughter's diorama we built four years ago, added some trees and then took photos of some weathering of my new boxcars:

Progress

This isn't going to land in MRH, but it does document my progress.  Last year I posted a picture of my layout room and vowed to get it straightened up by Labor Day (remember the 120 day challenge?).  I'm too embarrassed to repost the "before" picture, but I've got my room in order and finished a bunch of less-than-fun hobby projects: built a couple tool organizers, a stripwood organizer, and some shelves.  Here's the result:

clean1.jpg

The shelves I built for paints and stains is now mounted on the wall.  There's a lot of stuff crammed into a small space but, for the most part, this is the closest I've ever come to having an "organized" bench:

clean2.jpg

A quick side note...I had the chance to visit with Driline last Monday.  He's got a very nice little operating layout with lots of well done scratch-built structures that depict areas in and around the Quad Cities.  He was a cordial host and was kind enough to let my 9 year old run some trains for an afternoon.  Thanks Frank!

Why the move?

I couldn't find the Weekend Photo Fun forum in it's usual place. Why was it moved from the "modeling general discussion" forum to the "website general discussion" forum? Did I miss a meeting somewhere along the line?

How did everybody find the re-positioned forum so fast?

I'm going to go downstairs now and plant some grass or build a few trees or something that doesn't require a computer.

Sittin on the Wye

Ghost River 2-6-6-2 #61 sits on the wye waiting to back out and take a load of logs to the log dump.

I just finished this locomotive which I've been working on for three weeks. It is the Mantua 2-6-6-2 and had frame pick-up which was terrible. I started by completely disassembling the locomotive. I first glued pc board to the bottom of the engines and soldered on pick-ups made from Kadee #5 springs for each wheel on both engines. Lubed the gears and all moving parts with Nano-Oil. Just purrs now. Moved and replaced the bell and moved the light to the top of the smoke box. Added a water pump and fire hose to the pilot and with styrene, changed the engine to an oil burner. I also added a bit of piping to the compressors for a bit more detail. For the lights I used .0805 SMDs. I haven't made lenses for the lights yet. Just don't have anything small enough to cut a perfect circle. Put windows in the cab and added an engineer and fireman. Polly Scale "Steam Power Black" was used for the engine body, CP gray was used for the smoke box and custom decals were applied. Still a few little junk details to add but that stuff will be added as inspiration hits.

Re: Move

Rick,

I started the WPF post yesterday and tried to copy everything that Driline has done in the past. I didn't realize that he had put it in the "modeling general discussion" forum so I mistakenly put it in the "website general discussion" forum. Sorry for any confusion- I've moved it to its proper place in the "modeling general discussion."

R&T dramatic shots

Hello all.

We're constantly messing around at the R&T to try and get some dramatic  dusk, night, morning shots. don't quite know if we are there yet, but the new LED layout lighting certainly helps.

A group of guys doing more chatting than working late one night at the team track at Tumbelle. The headlights are fake but the stars are real.

Dusk at Cresco summit. This photo seems a lot darker in ckeditor than it really is.

There's still a nip in the air as we watch an early morning meet in front of Cresco tank.

I like your photos.

On30guy...

You did very well with your photos.  I like what I see.  That dark side of On30 is always tugging at me.

Finding the thread

Quote:

Not sure about everyone else, but I never go to individual forums here.  My MRH bookmark is set to take me to the "Posts Index" page - the link at the lower left corner of pretty much every page here - where you see all threads from all forums.  Because of that, I didn't even realize the thread had been moved...either time.

That one's not nice DJ

That's not nice DJ... that's smacked out of the ballpark!!! Gotta be the best photo I've ever seen of your layout (and I've seen a heck of a lot of them!) You have easily just raised the bar for model railroad photography forever. How are the rest of us ever gonna Live up to THAT !!!

Exceptionally well done, stupendous and outstanding.

I'm gonna have to go dig up some new superlatives to describe it...
