Anyone interested in modeling a US Army Depot c 1950 (or a quarry)?

0S100sml.jpg HO Scale modelers, in the UK, and of HO scale UK railways have been excited by the news that Hornby International are to issue an HO model of the USATC Class 100, known on British Railways as the 'USA Class' Tank in Q1/2013.

Manufactured by Rivarossi (now owned by Hornby) under catalogue No. HR 2477 -  The 2013 catalogue can be downloaded as a PDF from http://www.hornby.de/ftp/Rivarossi_Neuheiten2013.pdf.

Of the more than 400 made in the USA from 1942, more than three hundred S100's were shipped to the UK during WWII for use in the UK, Europe, North Africa and beyond.  More than 100 still remain, in museums and in preservation, some in the USA, several in the UK.

The model is to the HO scale, rather than the normal UK 00 scale and is currently being offered in European model shops for 100 ($133 approx) http://www.etendard-modelisme.com/product.php?id_product=1505

Using the Surviving Steam Locomotives web page search -  http://www.steamlocomotive.com/lists/searchdb.php?str=USATC&country=USA- I found several in the USA and 1 in Canada including one that is operational in Richmond VA as well as the Ex US Army 5001 from Watsonville CA - Granite Rock No 10 at Sacramento. (http://www.graniterock.com/about_us/museum/steam_engines.html) They were apparently used in a number of other US Army depot's throughout the USA.

Such a shame I'm not modeling

Such a shame I'm not modeling in HO anymore. I'd LOVE to have one of these in O scale, though, as my planned layout take will place in WW2 and will have Army railroad forces...

BTW, I've seen the Granite Rock locomotive at Sacramento, really impressive in person!

Price to be confirmed

Norman,

Sorry to disappoint you but the loco is not out yet and the 100 euro price quoted on that website is merely a 'holding price'. Other dealers' websites show the price as 0,00 euro.

The page you mention says below "Prix confimer lors de la sortie" Price to be confirmed once it comes out. The 100 euro is just your deposit for reserving the loco and will be subtracted from the eventual price. The smart money says it will sell for between 50 and 100 per cent higher, depending on whom you buy it from. Regardless of that, it looks a lovely model and I shall be buying one!

It will go nicely with the USATC rolling stock made by Klein Modellbahn and Tillig/Sachsenmodelle.

eBay 140910017098, 140910013195, 140910016303 for example.

Andy.
