Old Tom

Living in the UK and being a UK outline modeller (but I do have a US layout in Z scale:

) I wondered what interest there might be in an occasional UK outline feature in the Hobbyist Mag??

I know that there are quite a few US based modellers who model UK layouts and wondered if there was enough to push for a small 'UK roundup' in each issue.

Cheers

Tom

Sure!

Sure, I would not mind an occassional article on non-US railroads, prototype or model. Propose something and we'll take it from there ...

Hello Joe

Thanks for the response.

Two subjects come to mind that I think might appeal to your readers:

Hornby OO gauge live steam - I know it's been around for a long time but it's still unique in the world of RTR scale modelling and I'm sure a lot of readers will find an article interesting. I've had mine for a few years now and still get a kick out of steaming them.

Secondly, there's a commercial concern in Hamburg that bills itself as 'The largest model railway in the world' and judging by the vids on YouTube, I'd agree with them.  There's even a US section and the whole thing looks amazing. (I'm just going to have to go someday!).

UK outline trains(and other non- North American trains)

Old Tom, There are a few American modelers who have Euro style and British trains and there must be a growing number of them seeing MTH has in their catalog the orient express locos and passenger cars and lionel has of course the Harry Potter train then there are ETS and ACE who also sell Euro O gage trains.

I have always liked the looks of Marklin's HO trains, the basic black with red on the steamers are pretty cool.

Any way this is a "global" magazine threw the Internet I would like to see some other trains from around the world as well.

Anyone out there have Russian or Chinese models???

Sounds like a good idea Old

Perhaps a feature on your remarkable Z scale layout could be considered for a future issue?

Still waiting for the first submission ...

We can't print what we don't get ... the lack of non-US content is not due to editorial bias!

Still waiting ...

Whoops!  Apologies Joe, that

Whoops!

Apologies Joe, that wasn't meant as a criticism!  Like most magazines, I assume you rely on input from the readership to a greater or lesser extent, to back up the articles you have in hand.

If I know Old Tom (and, actually I do!  He lives not too far from me and we've met a few times.  He is kind of my railway mentor), he'll be happy to put something together.

The remarkable thing about his Z gauge layout is that, apart from the track and loco, the rest of it was all done for next to nothing - odd and ends, bits from skips etc.  Quite a remarkable feat of modelling that I hope, one day, to aspire to!
