I'm having extreme difficulty locating a couple of kits I wanted for my latest incarnation of the M&WV. Where do you guys find such items at a decent price? Already tried Ebay.

It's Appy, I'm happy!

Which kits?

Could check some sources I track from time to time.

Shows

Train shows are a good source. Just do a Google search using the description and/or product number.

Yahoo group-HOInterchange

You could join the Yahoo group HOInterchange. I have bought and sold HO scale structures, rolling stock and locomotives there. Most prices are reasonable and fair. I have seen some South River kits at their original prices.

Shops

My local hobby store does a steady business in selling old kits from estate and collection purchases. Some surprising things turn up.

+1 for HOI

HO Interchange is a great resource for old kits!

Thanks guys!

Mike M, I'm looking for Grandt Line Midwest Petroleum (#5907 if you need a stock number) and Industrial Heritage's Coal Tipple kit.

Joe Brugger, Grandt Line #5907 (Midwest Petroleum) and Industrial Heritage's Coal Tipple kit.

Built or unbuilt guys, preferably unbuilt so I can do 'em my way, but beggars can't be choosers.

If East TN had more train shows, I'd look there, but train shows in these parts are like findin' teeth on a chicken. Possible, but not probable, LOL.

If you are unable to find them, you may try this kit [it has a lot of similar ideas in it]:

Walthers Interstate Fuel and Oil #933-3006

I can't help you on the coal tipple, though... Tichy does sell the detail part kit for their coaling tower separate, you may be able to scratchbuild the building for the tipple and apply that kit.

A few other ideas

Well - there's http://www.craftsmankits.com/- but they put everything on ebay.  Yahoo groups are the other likely source, that I can think of (besides hobby shops and shows, of course).  Besides HO Interchange, there's also:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/buildingsandstructures/ (trades plans only - no buying / selling, I think)

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/trainsandstuff/

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/hosale/

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/HOFleaMarket/

For Rio Grande Southern, or related narrow-gauge stuff, I maintain a list of what's available, and links (where I can find them) to how to acquire them.  That list is here:

One down, one to go

I picked up the oil dealer kit in a 3 day auction on Ebay. The other kit is gonna be a tough bugger. It was made by CJ Riley under the name Industrial Heritage. There's a picture of it on Appalachian Railroad Modeling under the models section.
