After eight months on my newbie layout a feeling of achievement in finally completing one small section.  The pictures below show my sawmill on a spur track. The building has lights, the water wheel turns and the saw blade in the mill operates.  The ridge on the left needs a few more trees but the mill and siding are complete.  Yeeha

Anyone wondering what UNPR stands for...  I have yet to name this layout so the working title is :

"Untitled Non-Prototypical Railroad"

Cheers

Suggestion

Try using fine Ballest and I think the track is code 100 by looking at ties. If you continue try code 83 their is big difference in ties. The scene is great and you are doing a great job.

The scale question

Locos, rolling stock and vehicles are all OO (4mm to 1 ft or 1:72.  I freely confess that many of the buildings I have are HO scale hence the UNPR title.  I realise that this is probably a big no no to many but I made a number of purchases many years ago in both HO and OO.

For the purists, this is my first serious layout and I am using the opportunity to gain skills in all the various facets of this hobby and having a great time along the way.  I am treating this layout as a learning experience that will inevitably get chainsawed.  I am also trying to figure out along the way the scale, prototype and era  hat I want to get serious about.  Here in NZ the local prototype is a good option but for the lack of reasonably placed RTR Locos and rolling stock.  Available room suggests that N may be a better scale but advancing years mean smaller and fiddlier may be a challenge.

Cheers Peter
