To wrap up 2012 I've created a photo tour showing some before and after shots on my IAIS Grimes Line layout. All scenes were completed in the last 12 months.

Background Street Scenes

I knew you could do it they add the depth to make it look real. One more suggestion put some color variation in sky. Lighter at bottom and darker blue as you go up. Best this done before background put on. Really looking great.

Road Techniques

Hi Don,

The roads are painted with a cheap flat gray spray paint. Sidewalks, curbs and center dividers are painted with Model Master Flat Light Aircraft Grey. Everything is then weathered with an india ink/alcohol wash applied with an airbrush.

Very Cool

This is a nice summary of progress from the last year.  Lots of good stuff to be seen.

Productive Year

You got a lot done this year James.  My favorite scene is that faded, ratty, red pallet business.

Pallet Recyclers

Thanks Lance. Pallet Recyclers and the Rider area was the first time I extensively used photo backdrops and photo wallpaper. It gave me the confidence to tackle the larger areas of the layout with those same techniques.

Beautiful work ...

Your work is truly museum quality.  Your willingness to refrain from "glomming-up" your simple sky backdrop without tacky overdrawn clouds is admirable.  The blue of your "sky" is beautifully understated.  You might want to think about sharing your color formula and your application technique.  In my experience, I've found that overpainting can work wonders.
