Guys, I am trying to determine which Tsunami Sound decoder to choose for my Atlas GP-38, CP #3008.

I think I have figured out on my own that it was powered by an EMD 645 but there are two versions in the Litchfield catalog to choose from, 2nd Gen Turbo and 2nd Gen NonTurbo.  Does anyone know, or can anyone advise me as to how I could figure out for myself, if #3008 was turbo-charged or not?

I assume it must make a difference in the sound, not that I am experienced enough to notice, but it would be nice to have the right sound for the prototype all the same.

Thanks,

~Kevin

You want #828048 non-turbo

See this link: http://www.soundtraxx.com/dsd/tsunami/showwistle.php?s=emd645nt

GP38--NON-turbo 645

The GP 38 was a NON-turbo charged, EMD 645 type prime mover, 2,000 horsepower. The GP40 was the same displacement and type of prime mover except it was turbo charged and 3,000 horsepower. SO you need the Tsunami non-turbo or

828048TSU-AT1000 EMD 645 (Non-Turbocharged)

The 828048 is the Soundtraxx product number for this board. The AT type (AT refers to Atlas loco's).

I use Wikipedia to look up

I use Wikipedia to look up what motors were where. In your case, just put in EMD GP-38. You'll see that the prior posts are correct. This won't tell you which Tsunami part number, but what is the appropriate sound set! Hopefully others who come to this thread will find this universally useful.

@ Bruce

Thanks Bruce, that is helpful!

I've realized from the responses to this thread that I was not searching in the right places for my answer.

Your tip adds another resource that will without a doubt help me in the future.  I hope others benefit too.
