Proto 2000 E8/9

I have a couple of Proto 2000E8/9 A units that have factory installed decoders and sound. One of the units is not picking up current from the rear truck. I want to check the wiring to the truck but need some advice in how to do that. The documentation says "By removing the body shell and metal chassis weight...." however all of the electronic components and speakers are attached to it. Do I need to remove everything on the weight to remove the weight itself or is there something I'm overlooking?
Also any insight that you guys have about fixing the pickup issue would be appreciated.

Loose Wire
Mike
I had the same issue with my Blue LIne SD40-2 and I found out that it was a loose wire from the rear truck.

loose Wire
Thanks Nick I suspect that's what I'll find too if I can figure out how to get the thing apart. I'm assuming it was a failed solder joint?

Have you opened up the bottom
Have you opened up the bottom of the rear truck, and checked the pickups there?
