Here are some quick pics of the Owens Creek area of my layout. I used the title "Finished" as all the foam rockwork is done and most of the ground cover and trees. The stone abutments are still plywood and there is more work to be done on the waterfall and ground cover at the base of the trestle. Once that is done I can install the rest of the cross bracing on the bridge and ballast the track.

Incidentally, I want to have a few critters running around, does anybody know of someone who makes an O scale Bighorn Sheep? A few of them traipsing across the rock could be nice.

As I take these photos I am enjoying the smell of pine as well. I had to go to Canadian Tire to pickup a headlight bulb for my truck and thought I`d wander through the Christmas stuff while I was there. Hidden amongst the glitter and tinsel was a pine scented spray used to make your artificial Xmas tree smell real. Having hundreds of ``artificial`` trees in the basement I thought I`d give it a try. I sprayed a few trees around the room and low and behold, Pioneer Pass really does smell like a Pine forest. Can`t wait to see if the boys at the next Op, session notice it.

An overall view of the scene.

close up of the rocky outcropping East of the bridge. We still need to come up with a name for this particular formation. Preferably something that doesn`t reference male genitalia.

Foam Rocks

Nice work on the rock formations. They look very real. I really enjoy looking at the overall photo (the 1st one) it is a great scene.

Needle Rock?

Rick,

Reminds me of rocks in the "Needles" district of the Black Hills.

It looks really nice! Some more weeds in the cribbing (not too many) and it would be perfect.

Rock formations

Can you describe or post some pictures on your rock formation technique? I rally like these and am looking for some alternative ways to create large areas of rocks.

Wow

I agree, I would like to know how you did that as well. Aside from color, that could be the Colorado Rockies. I'm planning to do some rock walls when I get to that point on my layout, and being able to carve them straight from the foam I'm using as a base, would be really useful.

Fantastic!

I've been mulling over different methods to try in order to create a rock wall on my layout.  I'll definitely give this a shot.  Thanks for sharing your techniques.

Thanks Rick

Just watched your videos and they were very well done. I have a place on my layout that this technique makes perfect sense.
