Was wondering if anyone is modeling the Greenville & Northern?  With the railroad gone now for some time there is a lack of overhead shots that could be used to design a short layout and I have all of the magazine articles about the railroad though none show details about sidings and how the industrial trackage was laid out.  The articles have nice photos that gives some idea but not enough to be fairly accurate.  Any suggestions as to sources for such information?

Thanks

Sanborn Fire Maps and USGS

You might check if there are Sanborn Fire Maps and you can buy topographical maps from the U.S. Geological Survey.

Online USGS Maps

USGS maps are online at  http://cida.usgs.gov/hqsp/apex/f?p=262:1:2121005856791712

From South to North, take a look at

Greenville 2400 1983

Paris Mountain 2400 1983

Slater 24000 1983

If I were you, I would locate all the industrial sidings and get some pictures before the buildings disappear.

Some already have

Some of the buildings already have disappeared. There was a really neat industry near US25 closer to Travelers Rest that is now gone, it looked like at lumber yard/mill works. The tracks are gone and it is now the Swamp Rabbit Trail a rails to trails project.

Article

There was an article on the G&N in Railfan, I think before it was R&R, maybe 1974, 75.  I have it, buried in my library somewhere.  It did have some track plans and some good bw pix.

Found it, but....

Spring 1977 Railfan, but no track diagrams, just a general map.  Sorry.
