Ok, at the risk of sounding a bit egotistical, did anyone notice there are two video clips in this issue's up the creek?

OOOOHH YEAHHH !!

I have looked at all types of drop gates ,lift off gates and just lift off Bridges but The swing gate is a hot item. actually no I missed the video as I zipped through the Magazine skimming the articles. I did read about your Swing Bridge and found it to be a excellent and actually the best door bridge I have seen in 40 plus years of model railroading. I am going to steel everything about your swing bridge and may actually be one of the first things I build on the lower level door entry. I really liked the multi use Tree locking pin power switch very Clever. as for soldering the track to the wood screws they are Brass screws right? The lift up access hatch is very nice but I have sworn to never build another one as like you said in the first video if the access was any lower it would be trouble. I've been there and your right they are a good source for a cramp a sore neck, back, and or head and I've had them all with access hatches on my past 5 Railroads but I did like the drawer glides I always built them with 4 Brass or aluminum interlocking tubes with holes drilled in the tubes to slide a 16 penny nail through to hold the hatch up and a wood frame which it sat on when closed. in fact the last one I built used 1-1/2 inch PVC pipe and as far as the drawer slides I have 2 dozen of them in a Box in my wood shop and never thought once of using them vertically.

The geologist in me

The geologist in me chuckled...and then checked to make sure it wasn't the first!!!

Indeed I did!

Not only did I enjoy the video's but I also enjoyed the article.  Our layout will have a swing/lift gate so having a how-to to refer to will be a big help.  I was most impressed with the lift hatch design.  Very nice. It would seem that the superintendent is an engineer in more than one sense of the word!
