Pre-Wired smd LEDs

Didn't know, didn't expect it either, the US was that far behind with these things. Bought them myself a few years back in China, via AliExpress with free shipping to the Netherlands as well.

They are very useful for head- and tail lights, traffic lights, etc. even in N scale.

Hi Joe,

I just got some of these SMD prewired leds, and wanted to know if you have a technique to share for stripping the fine wire for soldering to thicker connecting  wire.

Thanks for listing these.

One trick I’ve seen for stripping fine wire is to get a barbecue lighter or cigarette lighter and burn it off! Seriously.

Or you can get a tool specifically designed to strip small gauge wire … (Amazon: https://amzn.to/3xVlBzE )

Here's some self adjusting strippers good for wire as small as 30 guage

Stripping the wire depends on what type of insulation is on the wire.  If it is a thin translucent coating, AKA "enameled wire" the mechanical stripper will not touch it.  Most enameled wire can be stripped with heat.   If the wire is insulated with plastic or rubber, using a lighter to strip it will likely make an ugly mess and the fumes could be deadly.

I recently got a pair of the "self-adjusting" strippers.  Have not used them vary much but they seem to work well.
