TCS WowSound decoder install-do's and don'ts

Jason,

Another excellent how to article, just love how easy your step by steps are to follow and with the great "what to watch for(s) and tips".  I remember a couple good practices (old school I guess), I learned early on in engine building and Dcc upgrades with regards to a few key points.

1) Soldered connection always well out last a press on connections. (sorry plastic clips either get hot and loosen or they become hard and no long grip the wire as tightly.

2) While electrical tape has many uses (temporarily), using it in a model engine with a drive motor or parts of a decoder components, heat, slowly softens the adhesive and that wonderful goo is a migrating gum that still sticks on my fingers and in my memory.

For me, building a model right, takes time, takes a little planning, takes proper testing to ensure not only the shell fits correctly, but the model runs correctly until technology improves once again so we get the chance to upgrade take apart again and ask the question "why did I do it that way before"?

JM, after re-viewing this article you've motivated me to once again upgrade one of my older switchers!  Keep those amazing articles coming sir.

Thanx Thom...

I actually did that install about four years ago, and yes the electrical tape was a temporary thing.  I do remember posting a few photos on MRH and getting the advice about using it, it was about a week after that I converted to using Kapton tape on all my installs.

Glad you're getting something out of the articles, I'm a visual learner myself, so often try to write my articles in that format with lots of pictures too.  Thanks for the kind comments too, and glad it motivated you as well...

Jason.
