Making Foam look like rock with a sharp knife

That is a very good way to weather and color Rock strata I'll have to try it myself.

However I did not use any filler, just went straight to paint.  Filler might have helped hide the many layers of 1" pink foam board though as the "layer cake effect" is visible, especially so when viewed in plane with the seams.  The youtube guy had a solid block of foam which would mitigate that effect. 

Overall its pretty easy, plus much cleaner and neater than plaster based alternatives.
