It may be "picking nits" but...
These RS3s ran long hood forward. You can even see the "F" on the long hood in the photos. In the story, the author has apparently reversed the engineer's and fireman's sides of the loco. Just swap the captions for photos 2 and 3 and you'll be good to go!
