Is the Tsu2 1.2 only for diesels or is there anything for steam?

Steam seems not to get much attention.  As an aside, it would also be nice if the SoundCar decoder would allow coupler separation with suppression of the glad hand release.

Thanks, Don

I enjoyed visiting your Z pike.  I think of it often and fondly.

Thanks for the kind words.

I’m not planning on going anywhere, just working on my stuff for a while.

You are correct on all points,

Mike. But I can’t do anything for you. Have you raised  these concerns with SoundTraxx? If not, I suggest you do so.

Exploring Tsunami 2

I found it disappointing that no actual sounds were reviewed. I'm interested in steam and have an original medium steam Tsunami. I rate that decoder's whole sound set as great but unfortunately none of the whistles is suitable for the railway I model. I found a suitable whistle in the Econami but to my horror the very realistic Tsunami rod clank has been replaced by something that sounds like someone belting an iron bar with a hammer. I would have like an idea of the rod clank sound in Tsunami 2.

Sounds

I probably should have put a link in the column. So here it is:

http://www.soundtraxx.com/dsd/tsunami2/tsu2steamsound.php

That will take you to the steam sounds. There are buttons at the top of the page for the diesel and electric sounds.

BTW, SoundTraxx has a June promotion where you can get four Tsu2 decoders for (about) the price of two:

Happy modeling.

Seems like a mistake, but...

Why would MRH put the competitor's full page ad into the section of the mag containing this article?

DCC ads

Quote:

Why would MRH put the competitor's full page ad into the section of the mag containing this article?

Because all DCC product ads go into pages covering DCC topics. SoundTraxx also has an ad there as well -- if the article happens to be mentioning a certain vendors products, there's no need to suddenly put a gag order on the competition's ads.

Our magazine also is for our readers, and readers are best served when ads are placed topically with content on a similar topic.

Exhaust Chuff

Thanks for your article. I was astounded to read that, unless you were being facetious, that there apparently is a way to compute the value for CV114 that will provide correct chuff timing. You "threw out" the number 137 which didn't make sense to me. If my loco has a 40:1 gearbox in it, then the motor will turn 10 revolutions to turn the driver 90 degrees, so I don't understand your use of 137 which implies an extremely low speed gear reduction in the drive train. Please elaborate, thank you. I found nothing on the Internet about this. And then there is the default for CV114 of 57 ....

137 was a number that I pulled out of . . . the air.

It was an example. In your case, the number would not be 137. I picked an odd number to make a subtitle point. The actual number is immaterial. Even if one calculates the number, as you did, there is no way to enter the number directly. You still fiddle your way into success.

Perhaps I should have grabbed 17 out of . . . the air.
