It is a bit different.

I hope you readers enjoy this view from my eyes of the convention. Little DCC content but a chance to learn more about each other.

Fantastic.

This is actually one of my favorite articles so far! I love getting to see a convention through other's eyes. Very well done.

Catching up

Thanks Bruce, glad we ran into each other. We'll have to stay in touch, especially as I'll finally be starting a home layout. Hope to use DCC to its fullest particularly in regards to lighting and sound. RR

Nice article! I've always

Nice article! I've always wanted to attend one of the narrow gauge conventions but never had the time to do it, so I have to enjoy it vicariously through articles like this.

I've now been to 16 NNGCs and they never disappoint.  This was a good one.  The modeling is always outstanding, regardless of your personal interests.  I heartily recommend them.

Lost interest....

Lost interest in DCC, Bruce ? Last month an advertorial about RailPro, this month an article about a convention, next month ???

I read your column to hear and learn about DCC stuff, so the last few months it was a bit disappointing, at least for me.

Next month back to the subject in your column's title, please.

Thanks, Willem.

Next Month...

But... I was hoping for an article on Steampunk, and adding DCC to an HO scale Zeppelin!

Heh... I kid... I kid (unless?) I like the diversions every so often... my own level of DCC is to plug the 8 pin harness into the 8 pin socket... though I have found quite a few of these articles to be quite helpful, even if a good portion went over my head a bit. That's saying something! So a diversion like this was pretty cool. (and Rail Pro, though I thought it was DCC of some sort, it is a DCC "Impulse", woulnd't one think?)

Banquet and Scale / Gauge

Hello: We have been to several different National Conventions: NMRA, NNGC, TCA  and  TTOS. TCA and TTOS have banquets that are worth attending. NMRA's banquet is more of an awards ceremony for their volunteers.

NMRA and NNGC have the best displays and vendors while TCA and TTOS have nice trading halls for the members.

I have done my Foam Rubber Scenery Clinic at all of them and a few local shows. and have been well received.

As to Scale / Gauge it would be nice if someone would standardize how they are expressed. I would suggest first the ratio of scale to real ( 1:48 ) followed by S for standard or N for narrow then the model gauge in mm, ( 32mm for Lionel track ) or 1:48S32 for Lionel, 1:48S30 for fine scale, 1:87.1S16.5 for HO and 1:87N10.5 for HOn30. Just an idea.

Thanks for the wonderful column.

Carl.

G'Day Bruce, nice article and glad you enjoyed the Narrow Gauge Convention in Denver. Great to meet-up with you and Linda and look forward to your narrow gauge layout you will build. I've got more animations happening and will share on my YT channel. All the best mate and regards from Down-Under. Laurie McLean MMR

Thank you for the tour

I normally read your column only because i’ Not interested in using DCC on the layout that I’m starting. But this issue’ column looked different, photos of building and layouts. I started reading and realized that it was a report on all that you saw on you visit to the convention.

i fully enjoyed your synopsis of the event and the tours of the layouts that you visited. I know that your mission is to teach people about DCC and how to use it, but an occasional article like this one is refreshing.

Again thank you,

Richard

Great column

Nice to have a reminder of how all this mind-boggling technology can be used in model railroading.

National Narrow Gauge Convention in Denver

I very much enjoyed reading the summary of the convention.  My first (and only) convention was the one in Augusta, Maine, so it was good to have something against which to compare my experience.  Like Bruce, I am a friend of Laurie McLean, and was pleased you got to know him in person.  We have participated in a couple of Yahoo online groups for years, but I have never had the pleasure of meeting him face to face.  Sounds like I missed a good one.

Narrow Gauge Convention column and future indoor layout

Hello Bruce,

As a committee member, I am pleased you enjoyed the convention, and it was nice chatting with you.

Obviously, your indoor layout needs to be On30. Is there really any question of that?

All the best,

Chris Lane
