Dead Rail Install

This was a nice series Bruce. It is going to be interesting to watch as Dead Rail evolves in the smaller scales.

dead rail install

Bruce,

I am just getting back into Large Scale Outdoor Model Railroading again after about a 12 year hiatus.  Back then I was just starting to dabble with RC and Nicad battery packs that I had to build myself.  this sure looks much nicer and more effective.  I mainly run steamers, most with small tenders rather than diesels so would you still recommend battery cars instead of trying to cram battery packs into either the engines or the tenders?

to KGL51?

I'm VERY interested in getting the batteries in the steamers. I run depression era narrow gauge: steamers pulling short trains and SWITCHING. So, I need to be able to switch out EVERY car. If you don't need to switch the cars, a battery car is better, IMHO. Easy to change if power runs out, fewer battery packs needed, larger capacity packs can be used.

Now we need an article on

Now we need an article on putting the battery power in an HO locomotive...no battery car or unpowered locomotive.

My purchased connectors had the red and black reversed

I decided to make a battery car and the connectors I got were wired backwards compared to the battery I had. This would be very confusing down the road. My solution was to place a red heat shrink tubing over the black wire and black over the red wire. Now when you look at everything you see a constant wire color from battery to engine.
