How were the hand rails constructed?

Great looking turntable, but you never mention how the handrails were constructed. Thanks, Tim

Tim, thank you for

Tim, thank you for commenting.

I did the handrails by soldering copper-wire. To get the form I used a printed template I created long time ago.

Below is the photo from the workbench. The top railing is held in place with masking tape. To trim the stanchions to length I used a sharp blade after soldering them to the top railing.

It's a  0.3 mm diameter wire

It's a  0.3 mm diameter wire ... AWG 28. I picked this at the garden department at our local home improvement store. It was labeled as flower-wire.

To get it straight I use two pairs of pliers on a section and stretched it gently.

digitizing a turn table

Hi Mike

was reading this article with great interest but then I saw you have gone to analog hand operation of the turn table. I am rebuilding mine and I want it digitized with a stepper motor able to be analog but electrically switched or computer operated - Rocrail. I found decoders but I have issues with the stepper motor drive. Do you have any ideas?

Hi Jürgen, I would go with an

Hi Jürgen,

I would go with an ardino as a "driver" as you can trigger input ports to command the stepper via toggle switches or dcc decoder outputs.

Be careful what you get as

Be careful what you get as "flower wire". A lot of it is iron, not copper. I believe there's some aluminum out there too. Some of the flower wire is painted green or brown, so the material won't be immediattely obvious.

I use PC board bus wire, myself....it ha the advamtage of being pre-tinned and very easy to solder. Solder paste is ideal for soldering - apply it with a pin or toothpick to the intersection of the wires, and simply touch the hot iron to the wires.
