Great model!

I found this a really inspirational and informational article. Not your everyday scratchbuilding project, that's for certain!

Love this loader!

When I saw this model on John's layout I was completely smitten by it.  He mentioned that he was working on a couple of articles on coal loaders for MRH, so I chose to focus on those models on his layout for a TrainMasters TV segment back in November.  Here's a preview with the Schlesser loader.

Now that the article is published I'm looking forward to building my own in the future.  Thanks, John.

How is it propelled?

I seem to have missed that detail. I'll admit my reading comprehension isn't as strong late at night as during the day but I feel like I'm missing something.

Aside from that stunning build! Great use of existing parts blended with scratchbuilding.

Hi Matt. The prototype is

Hi Matt. The prototype is propelled via an traction motor, similar to a locomotive, from power generated on board. The model is 'hand' propelled!!            John

Thanks!

I saw the generator on the model, didn't connect it to a traction motor. I'm sure hand propelled works. But have you seen some of the new motor technologies? Traction motors are coming true But no really I appreciate the answer.

What dedicated talent!

Hi John,

You've clearly devoted a lot of time and talent to this project along with

preparing a clearly written article on it.  Thanks from many of us who have

neither but who can appreciate the work of others. Now you need to design

and build a clearance gauge so your scenery won't get "trimmed."
