 Another great article by

Another great article by Matt, I was thinking of doing the same thing when I came across this Conrail crane last winter in Mount Holly, NJ

The boom car still had its ACI tag and Penn Central logos:

Boom Car

A very well written and detailed article. The effort put into the boom car has produced a model that is unique. Great photos that help visualize the steps necessary to make the conversion. Well done.

modern boom car, great article

A comprehensive but easy construction article of a very useful car!  Would be a great project for novice or experienced modelers.  I like that the article doesn't leave anything out and gives a complete list of what is needed.  Thanks to Matt Snell for sharing with the rest of us.  I really enjoyed this and plan on constructing one for my Walthers crane.

Boom car & Crane

Just saw the NS combo shown in the article in Newport, NC working on the NS rail bridge over the Newport River.

MOW Crane and Gon

This was very very interesting. A big step in the project that was only referred to and not described was the paint stripping step. A description of "why remove paint", pros and cons of removing paint vs. painting over existing paint would have been helpful.

Although I will not be building this model, it is always interesting to read the step-by-step approach of a kitbash. I picked up several helpful hints for my projects.

Thank you!

Excellent

Once again Mr. Snell delivers a great article. The prototype information was great. Filing this away for when the time comes to replace my old Tyco boom car.   Well done!

Boom Car.

Just wanted to say that this is the best how to article you have had yet. I have been an avid subscriber since you first started and will be with you always. Even though I am 72, I can still work on equipment with the best of them. Keep up the good work, if I can get my friend to help, we might do an article for you all.

Boom car ideas

Great ideas for when I get around to making my Walthers crane. I plan to motorise it, I have some tiny motors with gearboxes that should fit in the body.

Good job Matt

Well written and illustrated. I appreciate the technique of using masking tape to guide the saw cuts - never thought of that.
