Nicely done!

Way to go Matt. Not only does this reduce the cost of a model railroad, but it adds "history" and weathering in a way that can not be purchased. This is something akin to kitbashing with paint and decals

Ditto here.

Agreed... nice article, and a timely topic in this day of economic worry. Now many will look differently at those lightly used models that clutter the average train show shop-n-swap. A little TLC and some aftermarket wheels, Kadees and paint/weathering and you've got a nice runner.

Excellent Article

The $35.00 challenge was an excellent article and somewhat validated my own model railroading philosophy. In a time where a boxcar costs what a locomotive did not that long ago I have many of these type of cars on my layout. While they are not show stoppers or award winners they are good solid runners. I have been a fan of the author since I first saw his layout in Great Layouts 2006. Well Done Matt.
