NNGC: Anybody alive down there?

Anything to report from Hickory, seems awfully quiet down there?

Question for the New DCC Column in October

I am now planning and designing a new N-scale layout and switching from DC to DCC.  I am struggling with understanding (in a conceptual way) how to set up DCC power districts.  I have read several books on DCC as well as numerous articles on the web (including all of the highly recommended ones).   If possible, I'd like to see a discussion on setting up power districts for larger layouts (300 + sq ft or larger) with at least two levels (e.g., operating level & staging level) and a 2-track helix.  Most examples on the web or in books are 4x8 which haven't helped me at all.  Thanks.

You'll learn more by doing than by reading...

It's nice to ead about dcc but you can soend so much time in doing the reading that you will never get started. So you'll learna heck of a lot more by doing it and it will get done faster as well. While there are differences between DC wiring and DCC wiring you'll find that you won't need blocks as you do in DC to run more than on locomotive at a time. You see in DC you power the track and run the locomotive that is on the track block your locomotive is on. IN DCC you control a specific locomotive regardless of where it is located in the district your train is located on. Thus if you 12 locomotives in the block your DC cab is assigned to, they will all move. If you are using DCC, only the one your cab will only control the one you have selected for it.

NNG Hickory

Just finished the convention, every day was filled with spending time at the trade show and visiting layouts, every day ending late around midnight. Stay tuned for more detailed reports coming from Lew Matt (NG Editor) with photos. Lots of participation and several new products, those will be covered in more depth by Richard Bale in the news section! I' m in Charlotte NC airport waiting for my flight back to Quebec City! 9/11/2011...I expect it to be uneventful.

Aussie Contingent

Prof Klyzlr,

It was great to see it live believe it or not, I only saw it for a short time, even then it is an amazing piece of work these guys down under never cease to amaze me. I spent most of my time in the booth working the potential advertisers and visiting layouts but Lew Matt our NG Editor, was in the same room with their On30 modules and did extensively photograph it and all the other displays! I am sure we will see his work in the coming weeks.

I understand from speaking with the Australian contingent that Muskrat Ramble will now stay in the US under the care of Dave Revelia in FL. They don't present the same models more than six times and will be working on a new project from what I was told.

I am sure there will be more news on this in the coming weeks.
