Great round-up of first generation stuff
I'd suggest, at some future point, that you consider looking at the various body shells out there. Between current and former manufacturers (particularly the Canadians like Kaslo) there are a lot more options for first generation stuff then just what's been pumped out by manufacturers.

Excellent Summary
John's done it again for us N Scalers. The combination of history/background and the available models is particularly useful. Looking forward to the next in the series.

I can attest to the Quality (or lack of it)...
I can attest to the lack of quality of early N scale deisels and how poorly they ran. I have a few of them and only three of them run these days. The others have been removed from the rails but they won't be disposed of. I intend to make them a part of a "museum" on my layout. I guess I sould pull them out of the storage drawer they are in and take some photos for posting here.

Old N-Scale diesels
I had intended to take photographs of my old diesels and post them here but it's going to have to wait until Sunday. See you next year!.
