OUTSTANDING ISSUE!!

Just downloaded the embedded ver. and did a quick check.  Looks like I'll be up all night.  Thanks for all the hard work in getting it out.  I've been chomping at the bit for this issue to come since I saw the cover in the last issue...... it didn't disappoint!  Jim's DVD ver is download and Charlies going now.  I did stop and take the CSX loco for a spin.

Gotta go - I have a ton of reading to do!

No narrow gauge?

Is the narrow gauge column returning? The rest of the mag is great, but NG is really my thing...

Narrow gauge column - what would you like to see?

We hope to bring back the narrow gauge/light rail column ... long story short, we're working to get more narrow gauge-specific content that really speaks to the narrow gauge modeler. Can you give us 3 or 4 topics you'd like to see covered, as an example?

Excellent

Managed to read MRH on-line at work, the IT must have done something to allow this...!!

Another superb issue, especially Lance Mindheim's article on modeling the modern scene, and this is coming from someone who models Santa Fe in the 1960's! The thought of modern Commuter trains appeals to me, having to get the freight stuff out of the way, especially when they run frequently. Also enjoyed Jim Dias' WP layout, some excellent modeling there too.

Keep up the good work Joe, and all those who contribute.

I model in On30, and not

I model in On30, and not American prototype (although a lot of the equipment is American and much of the scenery looks like parts of America, too.) But I guess I'm interested in the smaller roads, and the logging and mining lines too, and not so much in the Colorado giants, . Look forward to seeing what comes out.

Protowest Website

The Protowest website was toxic and probably still is. However, you can get information about Protowest and order stuff at the Cimmaron Model Works website or mailto:info@cimarronworks.com. They always answer in a day or two.

Protowest Report

Please note, the protowest.com website reported by Google is a dangerous junk site having nothing to do with Proto Power West if that was what you were looking for.

Narrow Gauge Topics

Joe,

I'd like to see construction articles of logging or mining equiptment and structures.  Pictures of the prototype is also really useful as there is often a lot of information in the photos that I garner which may not be the central subject of the picture, the 'background' details.

I'd also like to see plans which one could model from.  A good set of drawings can always be sized to fit the scale which one is working in.

I'd also like to see some 'how-to's' on building smaller structures in detail.  This would include detailed notes on the prep and staining of wood or styrene, the details included in the model and how they were created and finally how one did all of the final coloring of the model and set it up in a diorama or on a layout.

Structures are something which I can't get enough of, and how one takes a boxtop picture of some older, no longer mfg'd kit(s)  and turn that into a structure would also be really interesting build to follow.built.

Finished

Finally finished the May/June issue last night. All I can say is, "Thanks for the great read."

This issue was full of great modelling info and was quite timely. It made for great airport layover reading and for quiet time reading after the kidlets were bedded down.

I've learned a lesson.

In the past when new issue of MRH was released, I sat down in front of the computer and devoured the issue as quickly as possible.  Afterwards, it seemed forever before the next issue came out.  This time I'm reading it more slowly.  The first day I browsed through the issue quickly scanning it to see what the content was.  Then I started reading through it an article or two at a time.  This issue is great.  I wouldn't want to try to say it is better or worse than previous issues.  I think all of them have been fantastic, but by reading it more slowly, I hope to avoid getting anxious for the next issue to come out. If I time it right, I will finish this issue about aweek before issue #8 is released.

Lessons learned..

Russ,

I'm doing exactly that now too but I'll still be happy to see MRH grow to be monthly.  In the case of MRH, more is definitely better!

Kudos to the publishers for

Kudos to the publishers for providing links to HD versions of the videos, and in MP4 format. It is wonderful to watch them on my big screen HD TV via the Blu-ray player which is wirelessly streaming the video file from my computer.

Regards,
