downloader

Hello all

I kind of liked the right click to download, could get it on any computer without having to upgrade software.

Now I will have to wait till I get home to "my" computer

Good point

Good point ... we'll have to offer an option that's "legacy-friendly" for those who just can't upgrade to Flash 9.1+ for some reason.

Gee isn't technology fun?

Lol, Joe, first you had to "fix" MRH for older computers, now you have to "fix" the downloader (again) for older computers... I certainly liked the way it worked.

Only one Problem. 1 click

Only one Problem.

1 click after selecting the MRH file and 122 seconds later I opened the October issue. Everthing was great except when I red the section on Photo windows there is mention that when useing plastic to print on after coating. Question Coating with what? I didn't see any mention of what the plastic was coated with.

Overhead transparencies

Do you remember the days before InFocus machines when presentations involved an overhead project on which you placed 8.5x11 transparent sheets that had been printed by computer (or hand)?

When using an inkjet printer to render on those sheets a coating has to be added giving the plastic some 'tooth' or the ink droplets will just run together and ball up making a smudgy, muddy, mess.

I believe that is the 'coating' being referred to.

Laser printers can print on this stuff without any coating (as could an ALPS dry pigment printer)

Hope this helped!

New Systems

Joe, just thought you might want to know.

Mac OS 10.6.1, downloader worked great, embeded version works in Acrobat 9.1. Not all flash content (like the Dallas Model Works ad) plays, but all links, movies, and 3d rotations work fine.

Windows 7 Professional. Downloader worked great, but system didn't understand the file type (acrobat was installed but not run previously on this system).  opened fine with security warning on going full screen. Videos and links work, links give same security error mesage. Again, Dallas Model Works ad fails. 3d click and spin fails, as it looks to Windows Media player to download, which doesn't exist (yet, at least on the MS download page) for Win7.

Again I wasn't working too hard to trouble shoot the errors, just followed links as a regular viewer might, but I thought you'd like to know.  Here's the initial form error that Acrobat posts in Windows 7 (and something similar occurs on the Mac side as well.

"Cannot save Form" error

Scarpia,

Yeah, that's a side effect of how Joe created the PDF file. He'll have an updated version (no new content, just that fixed) probably by tomorrow.

Acrobat can do fillable forms and for some reason it thinks this issue of MRH is one.

Charlie any idea what the

Charlie any idea what the clear coat is and do you think maybe Decal Clear coat(the stuff you spray on home made Decals to make them stay permanently) would work? Or is there some other type of spray that would work that you know of? Dan

When I was in art class way back in high school  there was a can of spray stuff for "fixing" chalk drawings called fixative may work, also maybe plain hair spray??? Just some thoughts not sure if will work in this application.

For best results when

For best results when printing on clear plastic sheet with an ink jet printer use the transparencies from that manufacturer. There's also a chemical reaction between the ink and the surface of the printed-on medium (the clear plastic). The chemical reactions can be slightly different between vendors.

So if you have some plain transparent sheets then go ahead an try your spray and see what happens (hint, only print a tiny bit of the test sheet to avoid wasting ink and/or making a mess if it doesn't work out very well).

With standard inkjet printers dark colors will print the best. White won't print at all (there's no white ink in standard inkjet printers). Printing a gold color is also kind of iffy (at least when I tried this).

An alternative would be a color laser printer. Or find someone with an ALPS dry pigment printer (which haven't been manufacturered for about 8 years). An ALPS printer can print white, gold, or silver (using special color cartridges).

As a final resort you might consider an outfit like Rail Graphics which can produce custom decals for you (I used them for my BC&SJ decals)

But go ahead give different sprays a try.

Cheers,

Charlie

Joe has addressed this concern.  if you are unable to use the downloader click download problems to find a right-clickable link to download from.

Another great issue!

Unable to download

Well, I totally disagree.  Nothing at all happens when I click on DOWNLOAD in the second screen (after choosing either EMBEDDED or STANDARD).  I've had zero problems downloading the previous issues with the older procedure.   /Tim.
