Locomotive Wheel Lathe

For my On30 roundhouse I'm trying to add details that would have been common in the 1920's.  I've been able to visit roundhouses in Baltimore (Ma & Pa) and Savannah (Central of Georgia Railway) but most of my inspiration has come from internet searches.  The Savannah roundhouse had wood block floors and rectangular smoke jacks that I copied.  The Baltimore roundhouse had wooden truss framing that I used in my modified Thomas Yorke model.  I added inspection pits based on Central Pacific RR drawings.  I also added a drop pit with a hydraulic lift

Labeling Wires

So yes, wires should be labeled.  But how?

I've seen letter stickers designed for wires, but I really don't want to need a cross reference table.  It seems that a full word would be more clear and less chance for confusion.

Cascade Sub: Summer Update 2021

It has been quite some time since I have posted on this blog, however progress has been occurring in the background. As expected for a younger man, life is busy and ever-changing. In the past year I have had very little time to work on the railroad consistently for long stretches of time, only getting a few days or weeks to tackle projects.

The world's most useful model railway

I just find this fascinating,

Cement Rail Grade Crossing/Level Crossing

painting is with a paper towel just blotting it on,  yes it could be done with an air brush for better looks.  I need to get a more white grey paint than the tan grey paint.  The detail is very very small but accurate, but being small and to scale,  most of the small detail does not show up when you are printing at .004mm resolution.  This model is a combination of multiple crossings.  I took things I liked from some and removed things I did not like.   Not an exact copy of cross but close and most people would not notice or care anyway

Track saw acquired

After a lot of reading online reviews and forums, debating with myself, and online shopping, I have finally acquired a track saw, for better or worse.

I started leaning toward the Kreg, decided I liked the Bosch better, realized the Bosch was just as expensive as a festool, and then finally dialed back to the Makita.
