On Staycation

I've been on vacation/staycation for the past week, its nice to have a little time of work to pursue other things, oh of course I have plenty of work to do around the house, but I also want to have some fun while on staycation, So I made a trip over to Dana's RR Supply and ran a train, couldn't afford to buy anything, since we were surprised last Saturday that we needed to put a couple of tires on the car, (tires are sure getting expensive these days), and after buying gas, purchasing a locomotive last week, I wasn't doing much of anything else! But I did run a train!

Withlacoochee River Report

Thats right, assuming that this thing works in Safari, because it sure ain't working in IE9, yes, in these two videos, I actually managed to produce two Withlacoochee River Reports in less than a week, and I hope to get back to the weekly program again, as well as other programs I had been working on.

It Finally Happened

Yes it did, if finally happened, Ben Neal of Subpar Productions finally made it, thats right, he made a Norfolk and Western Class J, No.600 to be exact, and its some of the finest 3D modeling I've seen to date within the Trainz community, while I get into other forms of 3D modeling, especially the female kind, Trainz has been one of my mainstays, over the years I've been playing with Trainz, and technically its still a game, it has provided me with many hours of great fun and satisfaction.

I finally got TS2010, and also finally, after all its updates and service packs, have it working, needed to reset my video card settings, but at least its not an unacceptable slide show!

Todays train is an old favorite, on my Animas Canyon route, the real Animas Canyon is located just north of Durango, Colorado, I have many wonderful memories of that area from when I was growing up.

My Atlas Adventure

Last year I had purchased one of the old Atlas Yellow Box RS3's, we all know how great a running engines these Atlas/Kato units were back in the day, that was the days before DCC and making everything run right using electronics, however, when I was giving it its initial shakedown running, seems something gave way, it started grinding its gears and going real slow all of a sudden, Hmm!

Another Saturday, another train sale at Dana's RR Supply, I managed to get my hands on an ABB set of Bachman Plus F7's in the old infamous Santa Fe warbonnet, I managed to spend more than I took in, (way more), my wife has decided she wants an N scale railroad!

Let me introduce you to Daisy, she is a railfan, (a better looking one than I am!), she travels the country, or countries shooting train vids, true she is really only a 3D computer graphics model, but she is my creation, for those who mess around with 3D modeling and computer graphics, and you use either DAZ Studio or Poser, you can get her .pz2 morph file for Victoria 4.2 at sharecg.com.

The December Train Sale

Well here it is again, December, I guess that happens every year, too bad my bosses don't seem to understand that we who have families would like a little time off during the holidays, but alas, at least I have bosses!

The train sale went off very well, when we arrived the parking lot at Dana's RR Supply in Springhill, Florida was already just about packed, we managed to get our tables set up and got our stuff out, but we didn't sell much for the entire day, I did however, spend plenty! The story of my life!

And Yet Another Saturday At Dana's RR Supply

And yet again, on a Saturday afternoon I find myself at Dana's, running one of my trains, I do so enjoy running on this layout, even more so than the one at home, of course, at Dana's, I'm in the air conditioning, something that is non-existent at home, sure I have an AC, in the house, but the train room isn't temp controlled, so during the summer I go to Dana's to run trains in the AC, likewise, in the winter, I go to Dana's to run trains when its cold outside, because just like AC in the summer, I have no heat in the train room in the winter either!!!

Finally!

Finally, we in the Trainz community now have decent D&RGW F units, reskins of the new ATSF units by NorfolkSouthern37, who literally took and completely did a new mesh and detail job on the old Auran F7 A and B units, now, finally a year later, we have them in D&RGW.

As Promised Earlier!

As I promised earlier on another blog, I would do some video of the V&O, and here it is, not bad as far as Trainz routes go, however it does have its gremlins, one of the tunnels isn't complete, and there doesn't appear a way to make it complete, this tunnel also isn't a portal or iportal, so the train doesn't disappear inside it only to re emerge somewhere else on the route, the train will just crash through a mountain, go figure, could be a DLS problem or maybe a content creator problem.

Not Enough V&O

Someone lamented in the forum awhile back, that MRH wasn't doing enough about the V&O, of course over the years, the V&O has been well covered by the print media, especially back in the 1970's and 80's, and since that time even, Alan McClelland has rebuilt and subsequently torn it down, however, thats not the end of the story!

Finally Gettin' Some Streamline Passenger Cars

I got these Stewart F3's for $30 for the pair, not a bad steal if I do say so myself, both units are powered.

Well We Had Another Sale For The Year

Well! We had another final train sale this year at Dana's RR Supply, I bought more than I sold, naturally, I ended up picking an AB set of phase 4 F3's, Stewart units, with the Kato drive, (a better drive than the china drive from Athearn!), these units run like a Swiss watch, they also look good, however, that purple ACL just don't cut it, they shall be D&RGW units, most likely in the bumble bee scheme, since I have no units in that scheme at the moment, I got the pair for $30.00.

Finally Have Some Warbonnet's

I finally got a set of Warbonnets, man these are nice, not quite as nice as say, the Genesis F units, not quite as nice as say, the Stewart or P2k F units, but nice none the less, these are MRC engines, I got em at a decent price, much more affordable than the P2k or the Genesis, and a littler nicer than the BB Athearns!

Now That The Weather Is Cooparating More

I finally got to work on the layout last night, added a siding where I wanted the wholesale fuel dealer to be at, and added some other scenic stuff, here are some pix of the progress.

Right after I added some scenic materials to enhance the area

A Frozen Withlacoochee River Report

It never fails, every year, during one of our local train sale's, we will get hit by rain on occasion, in October and March you usually have much heat, in January of 2010, for the first time since 1956, we have a deep freeze, a freeze that lasted for 12 days and counting, never breaking the 60 degree mark degree mark during the day, and dropping way below freezing during the overnight hours, this of course effected our train sale greatly, usually the January sale is our biggest, now hopefully Febuary will be our better sale.

You Find The Strangest Things

The other day I went into my train room, now mind you, my train room is detached from the house, there isn't any heat or AC in there at all, I needed to get a tool out of my tool box, we've had freezing temps for over a week now, in fact, we are coming up on ten days not breaking the 60 degree mark, so its been cold.

My Newest Caboose

I had been hanging onto an old MDC plastic caboose kit, ( I detest ready to run), I finally broke down and built it today, one because I found I already had the correct decals on hand, and two I was bored, so here she is, still needs a brake wheel standard, but I will use Athearn parts for those since the MDC parts provided weren't correct.

More On Local Train Sales

December 13, 2009, Once again, we have a nice turnout, not a lot of sales, but I did buy a whole bunch of HO scale buildings for $3 each, as two ladies from our club were selling off buildings from an estate, the proceeds went to help financially enhance the West Hernando Central Model RR.

At the end of the day, I was able to get the rest of the buildings that were left on the table for a mere $20.00, so I not only got some decent buildings, but also got some ebay fodder in the process.
