My Static Grass Diorama
Note: I changed the title of this post to something that better reflected the content.
I'm gearing up to go to the local MR show at the end of March. I'll be promoting MRH and showing the DIY grass applicators featured in the article currently slated for publication next month.
I want to take a static grass diorama to the show so patrons at the show can see a completed scene. I decided to use extruded pink foam to build my terrain. This is my first experience with using foam so it has been a learning process.

A wee bit O' Rail Fanning on a Friday Afternoon...
I was off to Moose Jaw today for a couple of things and took along my camera bag. Turned out the battery was just about toast on the video camera so I only got a short clip.
We did manage to take some good still shots down by the yard.
Thought I would share my clip, shot in the frigid cold...

Train Wreck In Saskatchewan - State of Emergency Declared...
In case anyone is interested.
"Residents in the Saskatchewan border town of Spy Hill are under a state of emergency after a huge train derailment on Saturday morning.
Fire crews are still on scene trying to extinguish the massive blaze.
The fire broke out after a CN train derailed just 13 kilometres west of Manitoba.

Trains: The Next Generation...
This one is nuts about trains already! He really likes the Siskiyou Line DVD's! Already a railfan he had me chasing a west bound CP freight out of Regina not that long ago.

Our Layout Quest Continues...
Well, it's been frustrating to say the least.
Some of you will remember helping me come up with a track plan for a space in our basement. A plan was developed that was much more industrious than we had first planned but it made us very happy in the long run.

Railroad Resource Management with MS OneNote 2007
In the past some members have asked how they could best archive MRH magazine issues. I had been looking for a way to organize all of my model railroad resources that I have collected over the years too.
I thought that the solution should ideally allow me to link to files on my local system or on the world wide web. It should allow me to use images if I chose to do so and I should be able to easily search my collection of railroad resources.

CNN Feature On Rail Fanning
I tried to embed this video but I couldn't get it to work for me. It's really nice to see how passionate these fellows are about trains.
Note: You have to put up with a commercial to see the video. :o)

Railroad tunes
Tim Warris shared a video with us a while back that had music by Fred Eaglesmith entitled, "I Like Trains", for a soundtrack. Since then I have become a fan of Fred's work and have noticed some interest from a few others.
I thought I would post what I had found.

Thunder Creek Model Railroad Show
I took the family to Moose Jaw today to take in the anual MRR show there.
The show is held in the Western Development Museum, it's history of transportation theme makes it an interesting venue for the show.
The show was well attended again this year, with clubs and vendors coming from all over Saskatchewan and Alberta.
Many scales were represented and we saw some great layouts. I had a chance to chat with a few of the exhibitors and passed around some MRH DVD's.
I'm going back tomorrow without the family.
I'll get some images up too!

Miniatur Wunderland Video
I had heard of this layout before but this video Is one I had not seen before. The faller vehicles driving around are cool, although in one shot an 18 wheeler takes a corner that would have been a disaster in real time!
EDIT: hmm dunno where the embedded video went???
It can be found in this thread...

Still a cool video with lots of information about the layout.
