My Layout design Blog

If you have been reading my blogs you know I have been doing most of my model railroading on a club layout and building models for my future layout. Now it is time to begin the design work on the layout and the structure that will house it. This will be a bit unusual in that I am not going to be filling the space with track work diagrams and the related flipping and shifting of components that seems to follow these things. At least initially it will be more strategic than tactical. Goals for the layout will be established, givens and druthers will also be addressed and operational aspects.

Delving into the past

Delving into the past of a location will be the activity I undertake on this Blog. This idea was inspired by myself and three other folks two of which I suspect did not know they were doing the inspiring. I have had discussions with several folks on the site about my free lanced line and followed many threads and blogs on here that talk about research of the prototype and modeling it. Others talk about being bitten by the rolling stock buying bug and have rolling stock in more than one era.

prep for an operating session

I am going to start a new section on the preparations for an operating session on our model railroad club layout. I will post several entries with the steps I go through to make it happen. For purposes of following along I have posted a copy of the track plan below. That way it should appear on the top of every page.

The club blog

I decided to start a blog on the events that take place at our model railroad club. Instead of just being a look at what we did or what event we are hosting etc type of posting I thought I would do something different. Some info on those types of things may enter in to the blog but I thought the focus would be on the camaraderie of the membership. I would also post some of the humorous things that happen when a bunch of grown men are playing with trains, doing maintenance and making improvements to our building.
